"I’m a fan of Martin guitars and base my guitars around them, but do not copy every detail. I still want my guitars to have their own look and go for the old Martin 30s sound."
Handmade in Galax, Virginia, home of one of the most famous fiddlers' conventions, this HD-28 from luthier Jimmy Edmonds is a bluegrass workhorse with a couple unique features! Brazilian rosewood, Adirondack spruce, and an enlarged soundhole...need we say more? This is a huge, commanding dread with a dark bass and crackling highs, and it's definitely set up for a hard-driving flatpicker.
The unusual flamed maple neck was carved with a V profile but is overall fuller than most (is chunky V a thing?). The finish was stripped to give it a matte "speed neck" feel. On the back, a fine green purfling line accents the ivoroid binding and zipper backstrip. In overall very clean condition, with strap pin and K&K pickup already installed.
