Product Code: GS5240
Fender's Stratocaster, specifically the models built prior to 1965, are widely considered by many to be the holy grail of electric guitars. Upon the introduction of the first solid body, the Esquire (Telecaster) in 1949, there were requests for a slightly more contoured body shape and additional bridge saddles for better intonation. Thus, the Stratocaster was designed in 1953.
This is a remarkable example of a mid-50's strat! The fingerboard and the back of the neck were once oversprayed, which has since been carfeully removed. The fretboard has been refretted, and though the the fretwire is newer, the board itself now shows a moderate amount of wear and discoloration in the first few frets. This guitar is still housing its original pots and single-coil pickups, which are nicely balanced with an incredible variety of tones, and two of the knobs were replaced with later bakelites. Cosmetically, there is a significant amount of checking throughout the finish and a large area of buckle rash on the back. This guitar comes with its original tweed case, as well as a newer, protective hard case.
