This designed originated from Pete Seeger's request to his luthier for three extra frets in his banjo neck, which allowed for a lower tuning and more suitable accompaniment to his voice. This particular example is currently tuned in that lower register, E,B,E,G#,B. It shows some finish delamination on the top, back, and sides of the headstock, but is otherwise in clean condition.
